Celebrating its first 21 years of service in style, Air Asiana have recently been named as Air Transport World's (ATW) “2009 Airline of the Year Award”. This international airline in India becomes the first Korean representative on a list of previous winners, including such industry giants as Cathay Pacific, British Airways, Air France and Lufthansa.
Accepting the award on 17th February, exactly to the day of their 21st Anniversary, the Asiana Airlines President and COO Young Doo Yoon cited the staff as being the fundamental success story.
It was recognized for providing excellent levels of service and safety to passengers, whilst maintaining impressive reliability in dispatching flights. Maintaining excellent financial results also helped (ATW) come to their decision.
Not short of awards for service levels and safety throughout their history, recommendation has also come from other industry experts, including Skytrax, who rate them as one of few 5 star airlines. Equally impressive in their approach to improving their impact on the environment, they were the first carrier to achieve certification to the industry's Environmental Management System.
Demonstrating their commitment to this cause, they have installed engines within the International Air Transport Association's (IATA) guidelines to minimize noise and air pollution.
With a system to constantly monitor performance, they review their practices on an annual basis to ensure targets are met and exceeded wherever possible.
Flying 84 routes, to 67 cities in 20 countries, Air Asiana have an extensive weekly schedule between Indira Gandhi International Airport to Incheon, throughout the week. With an impressive and constantly evolving fleet of modern aircraft totaling in excess of 70, expansion is happening apace with talks with Boeing continuing to further decrease the average of just over 7 years.
A professional and user-friendly website is hosted, allowing for ease of reference and booking. With interactive route maps and downloadable flight schedules amongst the usual suspects of carrier web portals, they reflect a professional image as high as their rewards show.
Being a member of the Star Alliance group of airlines, Air Asiana enjoy codeshare agreements with major players, enabling them to provide a consistent level of service and comfort that you would expect from an international airline in India to provide. With novel membership packages, including an initiative for the under 11s and benefits to passengers including discounts at restaurants and hotels throughout, this really is an airline for the future.
