Mahan Air is a private airline that has its base in Tehran, Iran. It has domestic and international flights to the Far East, Middle East, as well as Europe.
This airline was founded in 1991 and commenced its operation two years after as Iran’s foremost private airline. As of March 2007, it offered employment to 1,616 employees.

Mahan domestic flights cover Ahvas, Bandar Abbas, Asalouyeh, Birjand, Kerman, Iranshahr, Kish Island, Kermanshah, Mashhad, Mahshahr, Shiraz, Sary, Sirjan, Tehran, Zahedan and Zabol. Mahan international flights cover Amiritsa, Bangkok, Bagdad, Birmingham, Denpasar, Delhi, Dubai and Dusseldorf.
The airline plans to increase flights going to Dubai from twice to thrice daily. Mahan was named Iran’s fasted growing airline when it added flights to Bagdad and Dusseldorf in 2008.
The United States government laid sanction on Iranian airlines therefore they are not able to purchase airplanes directly from Airbus or Boeing. They are also allowed to only purchase airplanes that are more than 7 years old.
Mahan Air was among the airlines that were banned from flying to the EU. Despite the ban, this airline was able to operate aircraft that was wet leased from other carriers as long as the aircraft met the regulations set by the EU. This ban was lifted in on July 2008 when there was noticeable improvement and progress made by the airline.
