Malaysia Airlines, a flag carrier of Malaysia, operates from its main base which is Kuala Lumpur International Airport. This airline has another hub at Kota Kinabalu. In 2006 the airline underwent a financial restructuring operation but it still stands strong.
This airline operates transatlantic flights in the routes from Kuala Lumpur, via Stockholm, to Newark. The transpacific flights are from Kuala Lumpur , via Taipei, to Los Angeles.
All airlines usually fly with stopovers at different countries but Malaysia Air was the first travel nonstop from Seattle USA to Kuala Lumpur. The long flight made a record for an airliner and gave it a spot on the list of flights operated without landing. This airline has two subsidiary airlines namely Firefly and MASWings.
Firefly is known to operate flights from Penang International Airport to tertiary cities while MASWings operates inter- Borneo flights. Malaysia Airlines was awarded second with a score of 88 as Aviation Week's top performing company.
Since 1963, Malaysian Airlines has grown and built a name known for service and safety. This airline has received many awards during the years. Skytax gave the airline a 5star status and quality approved status together with other airlines like Qatar, Kingfisher and Asiana. Malaysia Airlines once known as Malaysian Airline System started operation in 1987 after the name change due to independence.
Before the Asian financial crisis took place in 1997, the airline incurred losses of RM 260 million after they had just earned RM 319 million that financial year. Therefore the airline took measure to cut its losses from RM 700 million to RM 259. Despite the efforts the airline still incurred more losses the following year.
The airline then decided to reduce on the routes travelled and these were Darwin, Brussels, Madrid, Honolulu, Vancouver and Munich. In 2002 and 2003 the airline recovered its losses and achieved the highest profit ever gotten in its history which totaled to RM 461 million.
If you travel first class, you will be offered a 180 degree flatbed seat, power outlet for electronics, 15” LCD touch screen monitor and mood lighting to help you adjust your sleep patterns to avoid jetlag. The features offered in first class are many compared to what I have mentioned.
Business class has a 171 degree lie flatbed seat; 10.4” LCD touch screen, foot rest, AC power outlet and mood lighting. The rest of the classes offer less features, but with great in-flight services.
