Qatar Airways is the flag carrier of Qatar which has its capital in Doha. The airline operates to over 80 destinations and has been awarded 5 star ratings by Skytax. The destinations travelled include Amritsar (India), Melbourne (Australia), Goa (India), and Sydney (Australia).
In 2009, Qatar Airways plans to expand its routes to Europe and Entebbe, Uganda. At the moment the airline is hiring cabin crew members who will serve the new routes.
Sometime back, Qatar Airways only had Airbuses but it now also has Boeing aircrafts in its fleet. The Boeing aircrafts fly to Houston, Cairo, Delhi, Melbourne and Sydney while the Airbuses go to Asia, Africa and some parts of Europe.
Qatar Airways has its branch of Cargo Airlines operating on many routes. The airline ordered 7 Boeing 777–Fs which will be delivered in 2009 as the new Doha International Airport is opened. The cargo aircraft will be able to carry 750,000 tones of cargo during its first phase of development. The new Boeing aircraft will operate on Qatar’s Far East and Europe routes.
The cargo flights have now started operating to a new destination: Zaragoza. Qatar Airways now has a total of 65 aircrafts while 140 orders of new planes have also been made. There are 3 cargo aircrafts at present while 2 new ones have been ordered to start operating in 2009.
During the 2005 Paris Air Show, Qatar Airways ordered 60 airbuses and 20 more Boeing aircrafts. In 2011, the airline will use its Airbus 380 to travel to London. The airline could deliver the new aircrafts soon, but they are holding back because of the shift to the new international terminal.
The airline has also canceled 4 orders for the Airbus A340–600s because of the high fuel prices and increase in operational costs as compared to the Boeing 777–300ERs. Since the Boeing aircraft is fuel efficient and costs less, the airline has ordered 30 Boeing 787–8. As at December 2008, the average age of Qatar Airways fleet was around 3 and half years old.
