Arunachal Pradesh is bounded on the south by the Assam state, on the north and northeast by China, on the west by Bhutan, and on the east by Myanmar is a thinly populated hilly area in the farthest northeastern part of the subcontinent.
Once depicted as the "Hidden Land" it has presently opened its doors to the outsides. This primeval land is cited in early literature such as the, the Mahabharata, Kalika Purana and Ramayana. It was here that Parasuram cleansed away his sins, Bhismaka founded his kingdom, Vyasa meditated, lord Krishna married his consort, Rukmini. The 6th Dalai Lama was born in the humble place of Arunachal Pradesh. |

Celebrated for its more than 400 year old Buddhist monastery, the Tawang Monastery was established by a monk named Mera Lama, a current of the fifth Dalai Lama. Previous to the establishment of the monastery, Tawang was a centre of the not so famous Tantric religion. The Tawang Monastery is also known to the world as the ‘Galden Namgyal Lhatse’. |
