Assam, a T-shaped state, occupies the Northeastern part of India. Its Northern part is bordered by Arunachal Pradesh and Bhutan.
In the East, it is bordered by Manipur Mizoram and some parts of Burma. Meghalaya, Bangladesh, Tripura and Mizoram bound its Southern part and West Bengal borders in the West.
The state is generally composed of plains and river valleys. It is divided into three principal regions: the Brahmaputra Valley in the North; the Barak Plain in the South; and the Mikir (Karbi Anglong) and Cachar Hills that divide the two regions.
Most of Assam's population occupies the Brahmaputra Valley, the valley of the magnificent river Brahmaputra.
Assam is a well-watered place which is why it is very rich in vegetation. One of the reserved forests in the area is the Kaziranga, home to rare Indian Rhinoceros. The state now produces a lot of bamboo although the industry is yet to fully develop.
