With an area of 78,438 square kilometers or 30,285 square miles, Assam's important places are connected by a network of national highways and other roads.
The industrial town of Guwahati for example, is linked by good accessible roads and is connected by regular public and private bus services with Shillong, Silchar, Dibrugargh and other towns.
The Assam State Transport Corporation and other privately operated buses services the other towns as well.
The buses also carry out operations to the capital of neighboring states and the Department of Tourism has a convoy of jeeps and luxury buses to accommodate visitors/tourists. Assam is bordered by the Arunachal Pradesh in the north and east, Nagaland and Manipur states to the east, Mizuram and Trioura states to the south and Meghalaya and West Bengal to the west. The state also shares international borders with Bhutan to the north and to the west is Bangladesh.
