The name Tezpur ('Teza' meaning blood and 'pura' meaning town or city) is derived from the Sanskrit words. So Tezpur literally means town of blood.
It is said that there was so much bloodshed during the war between Lord Krishna and King Banasura's army, that the entire land turned red.
Thus the name Tezpur is derived. Tezpur is situated in the northern side of Assam.
