Deogarh (Devagriha), meaning the abode of Gods, in Jharkhand, is the headquarters of Deogarh Sub-division in the Santhal Parganas district.
It is located four miles to the South-east of Jasidih Junction on the main line of the Eastern Railway from Howrah to Delhi.
It stands on an all-weather road connecting Calcutta with Delhi. It is a significant pilgrimage destination for its famous Vaidyanath Temple.
Legend says that the ten-headed Ravana prayed and asked Lord Shiva to make his kingdom, Sri Lanka, invincible.
He was given one of the twelve Jyotirlingrams, representations of Lord Shiva, and given the condition that if he set it on the ground it would take root immediately. Ravana then started his way back home but before he reached his destination, the Gods played a trick on him and the Jyotirlingam was set down in Deogarh, and it stands within the Vaidyanath Temple. Several other temples built in honor of Lord Shiva are found in Deogarh aside from the popular Buddhist shrines.
Deoghar is a holy place and its literal meaning is the abode of the God. It is located four miles to the south-east of Jasidih Junction on the main line of the Eastern Railway from Howrah to Delhi. However, Baidyanath Dham is name of the railway station at Deoghar.
The prime attraction of Deoghar, Bihar is the holy temple like Naulakha Mandir, Radha-Krishna Mandir, etc. These temples are located on the outskirts of Deogarh. Baidyanath Temple is the sacred place of pilgrimage.
And this temple is one of the most famous temple for which Deoghar is well known all over the country. Trikut is located 16 km away from Deogarh and this place houses various caves and waterfalls. |
