Location Map of Bihar
Bihar is located in the Eastern part of India. Bordered by Nepal to the North, West Bengal State to the East, Jharkhand State to the South, and Uttar Pradesh to the West, Bihar is an entirely land-locked place. It is divided into two unequal halves by the River Ganga which flows through the middle from West to East. The name Bihar is derived from the word “Vihara” which means monastery.
As the name implies, it is indeed a home of numerous monasteries. Hindu, Buddhist, Jain, Muslim and Sikh shrines are found in this ancient place where India's major empires rose and fell. |

Among all the states in India, this is the most intimately linked to the Buddha's life, resulting to a trail of pilgrimages now known as the Buddhist circuit. The ruins of the world's earliest universities rest in Bihar and forty percent of India's mineral wealth lies buried within it. |
