Tourist Map of Bihar
Bihar is a picturesque crossing point of the past and the present. Here, rival kings fought legendary battles and yet, by some out of the ordinary alchemy, the same place witnessed the birth of several of the most dignified and progressive religious teachers such as the Buddha, Guru Gobind Singh and Mahavira. For five centuries, the Muslims ran Bihar with panache but were later eliminated by the British.
Cutting across Bihar from east to west is the abundant Ganga that cultivated a genuine spring of political and cultural civilizations.

Bihar's colorful past brought about structures and artifacts that are now prime tourism attractions and pilgrimage sites. Given top priority in the region's tourism industry are Bodhgaya, where the Lord Buddha attained enlightenment, Nalanda, the great seat of international learning, the scenic Rajgir and Vaishali, the first republican state in the world.
Bihar is also a coal belt and is the main source of thermal energy in India. Its modern facade boasts some of India's largest steel and mining industries. |
