Fort and Palaces in Karnataka

Karnataka is one of the popular tourist destinations in India. The state is well known for its monuments, temples, green forests, cultural beauty, and fort and palaces.

Like other Indian states forts and palaces of Karnataka were built by the rulers who ruled the state in the past. The forts and palace of Karnataka are huge and magnificent.

These forts and palace were the center of power, luxury and extravagant during their eras but today these are the tourist spots those shows the allure of that era. The three most popular forts and palaces of Karnataka are Mysore Palace, Bidar Fort, and Bellary Fort.

Mysore Palace:
Mysore Palace is not only grandest palace of Karnataka but also consider as grandest and luxurious palace in India.

The palace was built by Wadeyars and over the time it rebuilt many time with quality additions. The present structure was built after the palace caught fire during a wedding ceremony in 1897. Today’s palace was designed by famous architect Henry Irwin and he did a splendid job.

He used many designs from different styles like Indo-saroenic, Gothic, Hindu and Muslim architecture art to built a palace that still has no match.

Mysore Palace has been converted into museum; here visitor can see the paintings, gold artifacts, jewelry, and many other items that once belong to Wodeyar dynasty.

Mysore palace is also famous for Dussehra celebration, which perform here during the month of October or November every year. The timing to visit the Mysore palace is on all days from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm.

Bidar Fort:
It is one of the most imposing structures in Karnataka. The fort was built in the 15th century and situated around 40 kms from the Gulbarga and adjacent to Manjira River Valley.

The fort was initially rules by Bahamani Kingdom (1428-1489) but later captured by the Aurangazeb and till 1724 belong to the Mughal rule. The different sections of the fort were built by the different rulers that make it a unique monument of Karnataka. There are various palaces inside the fort like Rang Mahal.

Bellary fort:
The beautiful fort was built by Hanumappa Navak of the Navaka Dynesty, which was later captured by Hyder Ali in 1769. The fort is divided into two sections the upper fort and the lower fort. There are few temples like Kote Ajaneya Temple, dedicated to God Hanuman. The best time to visit fort is in the evening.
