Forts and Palaces in Kerala

Kerala is one of the best tourist destinations of India, known for its cultural and historical heritage.

For the long eras many rulers ruled in the state and they built various forts and palaces in Kerala. These magnificent Forts and Palaces of Kerala have various stories to tell.

Bolghatty Palace:
The beautiful palace is located on the Bolghatty Island and easily accessible with the help of the ferry services that are provide for tourists.

Now palace has been converted into heritage hotel and houses beautiful golf course with serene surroundings.

The Bolghatty Palace was built by Dutch in 1744 and still preserved in its best condition by Kerala Tourism Development Corporation. Golf course, swimming pool, Ayurvedic center, and daily Kathakali performances are major attractions of the palace.

Chendamangalam Fort:
The fort is located in a small town of Ernakulam in Cochin district. The fort is surrounded by lush green landscape and small hillocks and three rivers flowing nearby. The fort is about 450 year old and houses some rare relics, artifacts and historical documents. Tourist can find a mosque, a temple, and a church in close proximity in Chendamangalam fort.

Kunchan Smarakam Fort:
The beautiful fort is located 30 kilometes from the Palakkad. The fort was built on the memory of famous poet of Kerala, Kunchan Nambiar.

Now it is serving as an institute for young people, those are interested in satirical art form. Every year the festival of ‘Navratri’ is celebrated with much opulence and grandeur.

Koyikkal Palace:
The palace is major tourist attraction of Kerala and located at Nedumangad (18 kms from Trivandrum).

The beautiful ancient palace is built in traditional Kerala architectural style with slanting roof and an inside courtyard. The Koyikkal Palace is a historical monument which stands for the rich historical legacy of Kerala.

The palace was built by Venad Royal family. The palace has two museums namely Folklore Museum and Numismatic Museum.

Mattancherry Palace:
The Mattancherry palace (also know as Dutch Palace) is located in Kochi. Palace was built by the Portuguese and they gifted it to the Maharaja of Kochi, Veera Kerala Varma.

Poonjar Palace:
The Poonjar Palace is located in the Kottayam. The Palace has a wonderful collection of royal antiques like weapons, palanquin, jewel boxes, grand chandeliers, and beautiful sculpture of Nataraja.
