Situated on the banks of the river Vishwamitri, Baroda is a city that went through several name changes. Once called Chandravati after its ruler Raja Chandan,
it was later changed to Viravati, the home of the brave, and then Vadpatra because of the abundance of banyan trees on the banks of the earlier mentioned river. From Vadpatra it resulted to its present name Baroda or Vadodara.
It was the capital of one of the most powerful princely state prior to independence and is a pleasant, medium sized city with some interesting museums and art galleries and a fine park. It is also known as the city of Arches, Domes, Colourful Gardens Fountains, Supreme Education and ever increasing Industries.
