Haryana is located in northern India and is bordered by the Indian states of Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttaranchal, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. On its eastern boundary is an enclave formed by the The National Capital Territory of Delhi.
Hindi for dwelling place of God, Haryana became India's 17th state in 1966, created by the separation of the Hindi-speaking areas of the state of Punjab from the Punjabi-speaking ones.
Chandigarh, is the joint capital of Haryana and Punjab though it has its own union territories. Since then Haryana has made impressive progress to become one of the most prosperous states of India.
