The delightfully pleasant District of Kinnaur is located on the Indo Tibetan border, surrounded by Tibet to the east, and the Garhwal Himalyan to the south.
Famous for being the land of fairy tales and fantasies, Kinnaur was a part of the Rampur Bushar state which ruled the area for a long time.
It was first known as the Chini Tehsil of Mahasu, and later became a district along with the development of the state of Himachal Pradesh in 1960.
About 200 km from Shimla is the strikingly beautiful Kinnaur where the River Satluj carves deep gorges through the high mountains. The drive is picturesque and the lush greens that dot the horizon and the constant change of the topography are absolutely fascinating.
Although it may be drier than what we’re used to, and very cold, and in the right season – from July to August -- its quietness, great visibility, wonderful views and alluring mysterious atmosphere, make it a great area to explore.
Kinnaur stands in the North-Eastern part of Himachal Pradesh. Tibet is on the Eastern part of Kinnaur. It will be a worth experience to see the breathtaking Sangla valley which offers visitors the breathtaking view of captivating lush green orchards. The rivers of Kinnaur include Satlui, Spiti, Baspa, Yolong, etc.
During your visit to Kinnaur you can experience breath taking views of the valleys, beautiful villages, tribal lifestyle, and other activities such as rock climbing, fishing, etc. The best time to visit Kinnaur is between April and October. |
