Situated on a forested ridge at 7,100 ft/2,165m high, in the North-Western Himalayas, Shimla is quite a awe-inspiring sight.  Being the capital of Himachal Pradesh, it is also known to be the “Queen of Hill stations.”

Shimla was named after the goddess 'Shayamla Devi' -- another manifestation of Goddess Kali. It was part of the Kingdom of Nepal until the British discovered it in 1819.

It is a very popular destination for families who want to take vacationing to a literally massive level. And it's the perfect romantic getaway because of its sylvan features.

Every season creates a refreshingly new atmosphere in the city. During the monsoon, the entire city is swathed in a fine mist that only adds to its mysterious lure. And even in the summer the nights are cool and ideal for a night about town.

But the most favorite is in autumn when the days are warm and bright and the nights are crisp and cool.
