This small town is place where Gautam Buddha got the
enlightenment under a Bodhi tree. It is one of the four holiest
cities of Buddist faith. Bodh Gaya is located in the center part
of Bihar, a state in India. Gaya is situated only 113 kilometers
from the state capital Patna. The Mahabodhi temple and bodhi tree
are main attractions of the Gaya. The Mahabodhi temple stands on
the 3rd-century-BC shrine, erected by Ashoka. Many countries like
Japan, Burma, China, Sri Lanka, Korea, Nepal, etc., where Buddhism
is an important faith, have built their respective monasteries and
temples in Bodhgaya. Every year thousands of Buddhist pilgrims come
to Bodh Gaya from across the world. Bodh gaya is also famous for
the various meditation courses offered by a number of institutes,
in the town round the year. The small town is very well connected
to the other parts of country through rail and roads.
