A state found on the tropical Malabar Coast, the state borders Tamil Nadu and Karnataka on the east and northeast while on the west and south lie the Lakshadweep and the Maldives respectively. It is one of the fours states comprising the linguistic-cultural region known as South India.
Adopting the slogan “God's own country”, the etymology of Kerala's name is still disputed. Prevailing theories say that the word is an imperfect portmanteau that combines kera, meaning coconut tree, and alam, which means land or location. Other also believe that it originated from the phrase chera alam or Land of the Chera.
Kerala has fourteen districts which are distributed among Kerala’s three historical regions such as Travancore, Kochi and Malabar. The map of Kerala includes all the fourteen districts specifying it like North Kerala, Central Kerala and South Kerala.
North Kerala consists of five districts namely Kannur, Kasargod, Kozhikode, Mallapuram, and Wayanad. The northern district of Kerala Kannur shares its geographical boundary with Kasargod on the North, Kozhikode in the south, Karnataka on the east, and Arabian Sea on the west. Kannur offers breathings views of natural scenery.
