Rich in cultural and political heritage, Malappuram is a district lying in Northern Kerala and bounded on the north by Wayanad District, on the northeast by Tamil Nadu, Thrissur District on the southwest and Palakkad District on the south and southeast.

The district is known for national activism such as the Kilafat Movement and the Malabar Rebellion, which struggled against feudalism and colonialism.

Acknowledged by historians as part of Indian Independence Struggle, said movements are also said to be associated with religious overtones.

Literally meaning a land atop hills, Malappuram was part of the Malabar District in the Madras Presidency before the 1947 Indian Independence. The district is enriched with three great rivers namely the Chaliyar, the Kadalundi and the Bharathapuzzha.

Presently, Malappuram District is comprised of 2 revenue divisions, 6 taluks, 135 villages, 14 blocks, 5 municipalities and 100 panchayats. Panchayats are responsible for mother and child welfare, agricultural production, rural industry, medical relief, grazing grounds, local roads, and water tanks and wells. Alongside historic moments and diverse natural attractions, Malappuram is also well-known for spectacular festivals held at its temples and mosques.

Malappuram is a district in Kerala. The lush greenery, rivers, hills, and forests are the beautiful assets of Malappuram. The place offers colourful festivals and various adventurous activities. The tourists of Malappuram can enjoy the sight seeing of Padinharekara beach.
