City Map of Thiruvanathapuram - Kerala
Formerly known as Trivandum, Thiruvananthapuram is a beach side city built on seven hills and was tagged by India's Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi as the Ever Green City of India. This is because the city can be characterized by its undulating terrain of low coastal hills, wide, clean roads and busy commercial alleys.
The capital of Kerala, it is situated on the west coast of India, near the extreme south of the mainland and has an area of 2,192 square kilometers. It is also by far, the largest and most populous city in the state.
The city derived its name from the word Thiru-anantha-puram, which means the city of Anantha, or the home of the sacred Serpent Anantha. It is where the preserver of the Hindu trinity, Lord Vishnu, rests. |

| The deity can be found at the Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple, which is the most recognizable emblem of the city.
Thiruvananthapuram is also famous for its beaches and has grown into a major tourism and commercial center. With the international airport situated in the city, it serves as a gateway to Kerala. |
