The great City of Kolhapur is Maharastra's hub for art, education, industry and sports, or more specifically—wrestling.

They’ve even put up a national stadium for a form of Khasbag which is a different form of wrestling .

It is largely agricultural. The region has a rich production of cotton, refined sugar, textiles and large bauxite deposits. This highly economically progressive city is also famous for making leather footwear, which are more popularly known as Kolhapuri Chappals. The city also manufactures engineering products.

It is evident that the people of Kolhapur take pride in the quality of work they have. This is reflective of its rich cultural heritage that's who will always appeal to history and culture buffs and vacationers alike.

Kolhapur is located on the banks of the river Panchganga and this city is known as capital of Maratha film industry. There are lots of places to see in Kolhapur. Some of them include Mahalaxmi temple, the town hall museum, the old palace, and so on. Kolhapur stands in the southernmost part of Maharashtra.

According to Indian mythology, the Mahalakshmi temple sited in Kohlapur is one of the Shaktipeeths of ancient era. Apart from its attractions Kolhapur is famous for Kolhapuri chappals, Kolhapuri jewels and Kolhapuri tobacco.

The tourists of Maharashtra never forget to pay a visit to Kolhapur for it is the historical place where the Silaharas, the Yadavas, the Rashtrakutas and Chalukyas have ruled. It is said that Mahalaxmi temple sited in Kohlapur is one of the Shaktipeeths mentioned in Indian mythology. The New Palace which is known as Chhatrapati Sahu Museum offers lush green parks, a zoo and a picturesque lake to soothe tired souls.

The town hall museum is where you can find old sculptures, paintings, filigree work in the woods, and so on. The old Palace houses the temple of the goddess Bhawani. There is a unique temple in Kolhapur which does not have pillars. Rankala Lake is a wide spacious lake where the temple of Rankabhairav lies.
