Surrounding Maharashtra in the west is the exotic Arabian Sea, while Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh borders it to the north, Madhya Pradesh to the east while to the south lie Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Maharashtra is large in size and population, it means “The Great State.” Its inland and coastal forts are legacies of Shiva and the Portuguese who were the leading foreign power in the 16th century.
The capital of Maharashtra, Mumbai, whose name originated from the goddess Mumba Devi, presents a myriad of fun and exciting ways to see, feel and taste India. They have a great picnic spot—The Hanging Garden, the Elephant Caves which is a temple carved from massive rock formations and Bazaars for the shop-a-holic in all of us.
