During its independence in 1947, India had one of the most-developed transport networks of any colony, particularly its railway system.
This was established during the British rule. These railway systems carry a bulk of people and goods.
The total length of India's operated railway track was 62,759 kilometers (38,997 miles) in 2000 of which 17 per cent was electrified. Three different widths of track are now in use.
Nagaland also has a railway terminus connected to this long system. These tracks connect the Nagaland to other state terminals in India like in Dimpur, Guwahati, Silchar, Lumding, Haflong and Tinsukia and also to other neighboring countries like Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh.
The state's railway system is a big aid in its trade and communications with the other Indian states. This is also a good means for tourist to travel around the state especially in the places considered as its greatest tourist spots.
