There are a couple of things signifying Angul's rich culture and tradition. Centrally located in the state of Orissa, it is one of India's new districts that were formed on April 1, 1993.
Situated about 135 kilometers from Bhubaneswar, its neighboring towns include Dhenkanal in the southeast, Sambalpur in the wets, Keonjhar in the north and Phulbani in the southwest.
Despite the fact that the district has existed for only about 13 years, it is one the country's most advanced area due to its high returns of revenue to the government. This is attributed to the vast cola mines located in the area.
Some big industries are also found here such as well-known aluminum companies, thermal power and heavy water plants. Running through the Angul are the rivers Mahanadi and Bramhani that keep the lands fertile.
In the former lies the beauteous Satakosia Gorge. Amidst the great natural resources are the famous temples of Budhi Thakurani and Lord Jagannath. Also reflecting the districts culture and tradition is the unique puppet dance RavanChhaya.
Angul stands in the center of Orissa. Mahanadi and Bramhani are the two rivers that flow through the district of Angul. This is one of the significant districts of Orissa where you can find a number of big industries like National Aluminum Company (NALCO), Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), Heavy water Plant, Talcher, Indian Aluminum Product Ltd.
