Bharatpur is popular for products carved from ivory and sandalwood. It was founded in the year 1733 and was named after Bharat who is a figure in Hindu Mythology.
The important industries that have helped in its economic and industrial development include railway workshops, metal works, automobile factories, and oil mills.
The area has a wetland wealth that unmatched anywhere. Because of an annual flood that kept coming during the monsoon, the British decided to build an earthen dam.
Overtime, the dam became what is now popularly known as Bharatpur Lake. It runs through the diverse community and sanctuary of magnificent birds called The Keoladeo Ghana National Park or Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary which is home to migratory birds during winter.
Bharatpur won international recognition through the Ramsar Convention and is also considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. There's just no other place quite like Bharatpur—teeming with wildlife, it's the perfect destination for discoverers and adventurers alike.
