How to Get There Arunachal Pradesh

Arunachal Pradesh, one of the smallest states in India is located in the east region of Himalayas. It is also one among the less populated state in India covering an area of about 83,743 square kilometers.

Arunachal Pradesh is the land of verdant green forests, splendid mountains and beautiful valleys and the perfect place for adventure and wildlife lovers.

It is also an ideal place for the nature lovers as it consists of many areas that are still untouched and to be explored by the tourists. Although, not direct transport services, but the various options available to reach Arunachal Pradesh are given below:

Air Transport: Arunachal Pradesh itself does not have any airport either international or domestic. However, this area is accessed by air through the airports in the nearby areas. The closest airport to Arunachal Pradesh is Lilabari Airport in Assam which is about 67 kilometers far from the capital city, Itanagar.

The airline services of his airport are generally availed by the Vayudoot. However, there are also some direct air flights from Kolkata to Tezpur on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Beside these airline services, the helicopter services are also available to reach Tawang from Guwahati, Assam.

Rail Transport: The closest railway station to Arunachal Pradesh is Harmuty which is located somewhere near to Banderdewa gate at a distance of 33 kilometers from Itanagar. But the most convenient rail destination is North Lakhimpur, Assam which is about 60 km far from Itanagar. These stations avails the services of passenger trains and some other local trains.

Road Transport: There are many bus services provided at regular intervals by the state transport corporation of Arunachal Pradesh connecting it to various places inside the state as well as with the states in the neighborhood. There is a frequent and direct service for road travel from Naharlagun & Itanagar. Some of the main road distances are Guwahati at 381 km; Shillong at 481 km, Imphal at 495 km.

Declared as the Protected Area, there are certain permits that the tourists must get from the state government:

Domestic Tourists: Tourists of the native land need to have an Innerline Permit which is issued by Secretary of Arunachal Pradesh government, Deputy Commissioner as well as the Assistance Deputy Commissioner Itanagar.

Foreign Tourists: The tourists coming from foreign need to get the Permit for entry in the Protected Area Permit given by Indian Missions, Govt. of India, Home Ministry and Home Commissioners as well as by Arunachal Pradesh government.
