Assam, the gateway of North-East, has a fastest growing metropolitan city, Guwahati and many other developing non-metropolitan   cities. 

Guwahati
Guwahati, the main city of Assam, is the gateway to the other seven north eastern states. The capital of Assam, Dispur is situated in Guwahati.

The main business hub of North-East, Guwahati, has seen steady development in last five years. It is situated on the bank of the mighty river Brahmaputra, Guwahati is well-linked with the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi Airport.

The main tourist attractions of Guwahati are the Kamakhya temple, Navagraha temple, Basishta Ashram, Bhubanewari temple, The Umananda temple, the cultural centre Sankardev Kalakshetra, Shilpagram, Kalakshetra, and the Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden.

The Kamakhya Temple situated on the top of Nilachal Hill, which is on the bank of the river Brahmaputra, is visited by the tourists all over the world. The devotes worship here the sexual organs of Devi Kamakhya, which is the symbol of fertility. Animal sacrifice is seen here as an offer to the goddess. The tantrik sadhus from India and neighboring countries come here in the Ambubashi Mela. Guwahati has a multiplex centre and various shopping malls.

Digboi
Digboi is the oil city of Assam where the first oil was drilled by the British. It has the atmosphere of British life style as most of the ancient clubs and golf courses are still survived here. The nearest airport to Digboi is Dibrugarh Mohanbari Airport which is 65 kms away from Digboi.

Jorhat

Jorhat, the second city of Assam, is also known as the culture capital of Assam. The greatest river island of world, Majuli, is situated here. It is the birth place of Vaishnavi art and culture. Most of the satras of Majuli, the centers of culture, are on the verge of extinction due to the erosion of the Brahmaputra. The Jorhat Airport is located in Jorhat district. The Sivasagar district is situated near Jorhat. The main attractions of Sivasagar are the ancient monuments of the Ahom Kingdom and the cemetery of the Ahom rulers, Charaideo.
