Temples in Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh is well known for renowned and sacred temples. There are number of temples to visit.

Chamunda Devi Temple in Palampur
Located at Palampur, in Kangra town of Himachal Pradesh, Chamunda Devi Temple is eminent for its sanctity.

Holy idol of Chamunda Devi wrapped in red cloth is established in this temple. It is defined in mythology that at this place Goddess Maa Kali assassinated Chanda and Munda who were generals of demon kings Nisumbh and Shumbh. Because of this temple is named as Chamunda Devi. This place is very calm and serene.

Chintpurni Temple in Una
It is one of the famous Shaktipeeths temples situated in different parts of country. Here feet of Goddess Sati fell, when Lord Vishnu to calm down the anger of Lord Shiva, severed her body into parts by his volley of array.  There is one more legend related to construction of this temple in mythology.

It is said that it was the order of Goddess Durga to built a temple and install her in the form of Pindi. Here wishes of visitors are fulfilled by Goddess Durga. Others Shakti Peeths temples such as Bhimakali temple and Naina Devi temple are also situated in Himachal Pradesh.

Bijli Mahadev Temple in Kullu
Dedicated to Lord Shiva, Bijli Mahadev temple is very famous in Himachal Pradesh. For reaching to this temple devotees have to climb up the stairs. At the door of this temple statue of the bull and nandi is situated.  Marvelous faming of the door is full of superb carvings.

Apart from temples, some renowned monasteries like Dhankar monastery, guru Ghantal monastery, Namgyal Monastery and Rewalsar are also located in Himachal Pradesh.

Namgyal Monastery in Dharamshala
Namgyal Monastery was set up by the third Dalai Lama named Sonam Gyatso in 1575. The purpose behind the establishment of this monastery was to assist people in carrying religious activities. For the improvement of Tibet, prayers by public were also performed at this place. Only those people who belong to Dalai Lama can get entry into this monastery.

Dhankar Monastery in the Spiti valley
The major center of attraction in this monastery is the image of Dhyan Buddha. Here Buddhist scriptures and paintings can be found in great quantity.  Gompas representing the life of Buddha is placed in this monastery.
