Temples in Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir is one of the hot tourist destinations in India. It witness maximum number of tourists throughout the year.

The state is considered the holy place of India as it comprise of some of the most famous pilgrimages in it. Jammu is called the temple city because it has numerous temples in it.

The temples like Raghunath Mandir and Vaishno deviji are the most sacred places for Hindus. Some of the most famous temples in Jammu and Kashmir are given below:

Raghunath Temple: this sacred temple is devoted to the Hindu God Lord Rama. Built by King Gulab Singh and his son Ranbir Singh, this temple was completed in 1860 about 25 years after it was started.

The walls inside the temple are enclosed with sheets of gold. The temple consists of numerous lavishly ornamented colonnades. This holy temple is encircled by various other temples that are devoted to different God mentioned in the Ramayana.

Sudh Mahadev Temple: This temple is situated near to Patnitop, Kashmir and is another holy place to visit in Jammu and Kashmir. This temple is known for its Asad Purnima fair which is held every year devoted to Lord Shiva.

Vaishno Deviji Temple: Vaishnodevi is also among the most sacred pilgrimages for Hindus and is worth a visit during your tour to Jammu and Kashmir. The temple is located in a cave situated at the top point of Trikuta mountains, about 61 kilometers away from Jammu city.

Amarnath Temple: This temple is situated in the Himalayas and is of very importance according to Hindu religion. It is believed that Lord Shiva told Parvati ji the creation secret in this cave. Every year a big ice lingam is formed in the Amarnath cave which is the symbol of the Lord Shiva.  

Kheer Bhawani Temple: This temple is also a pilgrimage center in Jammu and Kashmir and is a must visit during your tour to Jammu and Kashmir. This temple is devoted to Maharagya Devi and is situated about 14 miles away from the Srinagar city.

Bawey Wali Mata Temple:
Built in the Bahu Fort in Jammu city, this temple is a main pilgrimage center and witnesses a large number of devotees all around the year, especially on Sundays and Tuesdays. This temple is devoted to Goddess Mahakali. Concluding, a tour to temples in Jammu and Kashmir is such a wonderful experience one can have.
