Shopping in Nagaland

As it is commonly said that tribal peoples are self-dependent, they make all the fundamental needs themselves. So, it is also applicable to the brave and courageous tribes of Nagaland.

They have their own style of living and handmade art and crafts. The Naga tribes are basically agrarian.

As the north-east is a home of the various species of the bamboos, where the tallest grass grows, the bamboo products of the Nagaland are world-famous.

Most of the handmade products are made from the woods and cane bamboo. The products though are built in ethnic style, yet they look sophisticated and occupy a place in the global market.

The Naga women participate in several exhibitions in the various parts of the country and outside also with their traditional products. Even most products of the Naga tribes are exported to the western countries. The fashion designers even choose the styles of the Naga traditional garments to embellish their product.

The Naga tribes make various beautiful items from cane bamboo such as baskets, bags, furniture, woodcrafts, and shawls and jackets from the cotton. Other productions of the Naga tribes are metal works and pottery.

The shopping centres of the state are located in Kahima and Dimapur. Dimapur, a fastest growing city of north-east, is one of the main shopping hubs of the entire north-eastern region. Dimapur has a handloom and handicrafts centre, where one will get all the traditional yet fashionable products of the Naga tribes. The handloom products are gorgeous in design, simple in nature.
