Nagaland, one of the hill states of the north-eastern region of India. Before the British rule, the hill state was invaded and ruled by the Myanmar invaders.
The British conglomerated Nagaland with Assam, later after independence, the Naga inhabitants demanding separate political union engaged in subversive activities against the Indian Government.
In 1963, the statehood was granted to Nagaland by the Indian Government. As 90.02% people of the state are Christian, so is known as the “Most Baptist state of the world”.
The uniqueness of Nagaland tourism is that one will see here “Nature in its original form including its families.” Nagaland is a tourist spot, famous for its various tribes and their mythologies, primeval life style including rituals, food habits, beautiful villages, the hills and their resources.

The Tribes of Nagaland
The main tourist attractions are the tribes of the state. Almost 80% of the total population lives in the rural areas. Though similarity is seen among the tribes in their physical appearance yet their customs, rituals are different from each other.

The main tribes are‑‑ Angami, Lothas, Ao, Khiamniungan, Chakhesang, Zeliang Chang, Phom, Konyak,Pochury, Sumi, Rengma, Sangtam, Yimchungru, and Tangkhul. The hand works of the tribes are traditional garments, wood carvings, various bamboo items etc. They have all colorful dances.
Kohima Village
Kohima, the capital of Nagaland, keeps together so many villages of Nagaland with a beautiful gate which reflects the tribal architecture and effluence of the handicrafts of the tribal people. The gate is dressed with various symbols of war and fertility of folk culture.
World War II Cemetery
Nagaland has a war cemetery that bears the history of the Second World War. The British and Indian troops forced the Japanese troops to land here. The martyrs of the war buried here.
Shangnyu Village
Shangnyu Village has an eight feet high and twelve feet wide wooden monument. The Naga people believe that it is built by heavenly angels. The Angh (hereditary chief) rule the village. Memorial stones are also seen in front of the Angh's palace.
Dzukou Valley
It is 30 kms away from Kahima, the capital of Nagaland. It is located behind the Japfu Peak, the second highest peak of the state. The bamboo bushes, the streams, the flowers of the valley all make the valley a famous tourist spot. The main adorning flowers of the valley are lily and rhododendrons. |
