Konark sun temple

Situated at the eastern part of Orissa Sun temple attracts large number of visitors every year.  There is a legend about temple that it was built by son of Lord Krishna, Samba, when he was cursed leprosy by his father and he was cured by Lord Surya.

This temple is built with black stones. Twenty four wheels and seven horses constitute the huge chariot of this temple. Beautiful and convoluted carvings done on this chariot are the center of attraction in Konark sun temple. It represents the vividness of Hindu architecture and uniqueness of Orissan artistry.

Jagannath temple, Puri

Jagannath temple, Puri is the most famous temple of country. It was built in twelfth century by King Ananta Varman Chodaganga Dev and wooden idols of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and goddess Subhadra were installed here. This hugely constructed temple is extended in an area of around 400000 square feet and is surrounded by twenty feet high walls.

There are almost 125 temples and shrines in this entire area. Jagannath temple has around 192 feet high tower. Chariot festival arranged during the month of June is one of most celebrated event in Jagannath temple, Puri.


Lingaraj
Temple

Established during eleventh century in Bhubaneshwar Lingaraj Temple represents the ancient culture and tradition of Orissa. There is a famous legend about this temple that when Lord Shiva appreciated about the beauty of Bhubaneshwar and showed his intention to live here then Goddess Parvati went to visit it.

In the way she got demons Kritti and Vasa and when they proposed her then she asked them to carry her upon their shoulder. At this they agreed and goddess parvati sat on their shoulders and crushed. Then Lord Shiva created a lake for her wife and built their home as Lingaraja. Hence this place has special importance.

Mukteswara Temple
Mukteswara Temple was constructed in 10th century. There is a stone arch at the entrance of temple showing fabulous beauty of wall carvings and Orissan architecture.

At the front side of temple unique arched epistyle shows the influence of Buddhist culture. The Panchatantra stories written by Orissan writer Vishnu Sharma are the center of attraction for tourists in this temple.

The scenic beauty and religious importance of these temples attracts a number of tourists to visit every year.
