Rajasthan Wildlife Travel

The very first thought that comes into the mind when you talk about Rajasthan is an image of magnificent palaces, forts, temples and the vast Thar Desert.

But in actual there is a huge diversity of landscape in Rajasthan that starts from the infertile desert, thorn parched forests, rocks and gulches to wetlands and green forests.

Every part of the landscape comprises of a variety of wildlife which give the state with many wildlife sanctuaries.

There are 3 national parks and more than dozen of sanctuaries in Rajasthan. These areas are opened almost all the time for tourists except a small period of monsoon.

The wildlife tours in Rajasthan are some of the best experiences one can have as it facilitates the tourists to explore the thrilling wildlife either on the back of an elephant or in the jeeps.

Some of the famous national parks and sanctuaries in Rajasthan are given below:

Ranthambhor National Park: Ranthambhor National Park is situated in the outer bounds of Thar Desert and is established as a tiger reserve under the Project Tiger.

It has a wide variety of animals like sambhar, leopard, cheetal, sloth bear, wild boar, jackal and hyena.

Keoladeo Ghana National Park: Keoladeo Ghana National Park covers an area of 29 sq km and is famous for its fresh water marshland which attracts a large number of itinerant birds. Animals like the sambhar, nilgai, mongoose; blackbucks, chital, fishing cat and otter are also found over here.

Sariska Tiger Reserve: Sariska Tiger Reserve is another tiger reserve in Rajasthan. Beside the animals like sambhar, leopard, wild dog, sambhar, nilgai and chinkara, it is also famous for the wrecks of the temples of 9th and 10th centuries.

Mount Abu Sanctuary: This sanctuary is situated at the top of the Aravalis which is called Guru Shikhar. It has covered almost an area of 289 sq km. it is a home to many wildlife creatures like langaur, sambhar, jungle fowl and leopard.

Desert National Sanctuary: It is one of the huge parks that sprawl across an area of 3162 sq km. The various wildlife creatures found here are fox, desert cat, spiney tail uromastix, hare and sand fish. In winters a large number of imperial sand grouse, sparrows, bustards, eagles, and falcons can be seen migrating in this park.

Other wildlife sanctuaries in Rajasthan are Sitamata, Kumbhalgarh, Jaisamand, Darrah, Tal Chapper, Chambal, Jamwa Ramgarh, Todgarh-Rad, Ramgarh, Shergarh and Jawahar Sagar where the tourists can discover a wide range of wildlife in them.
