Tourist Attractions in Tripura

Tripura, one of the eight north-eastern states of India, is a state of tropical climate and shares border with Bangladesh.

The rich cultural properties of the state such as music, fine arts, dance and handicrafts, the flora and fauna, the ancient palaces, Buddhist pilgrimage centers and the natural scenarios make Tripura a beautiful tourist spot.

Tripura is still in the lapse of nature and the tribes of the state are mostly agrarian. The main tourist destinations of the state are discussed below.

Ujjyantta Palace
The Ujjyantta Palace located in the capital Agartala, is attracting the tourist from all over the world.  Maharaja Radha Kishore Manikya built this palace. The two storied mansion have three domes, one of which is 86 metres high. The adjacent gardens, pools, flood lighting and fountains add beauty to the entire palace.

Rock carvings of Unakati
The rock carvings of Unakati are related to the mythologies of Hindu, mostly to Lord Shiva and Ganesha. The carvings, stone images are symbols of mysticism of Hindu religion. The carvings will remind one the primeval age of the human beings. The Ashakastami mela is celebrated here in the month of April.

Kujaban Palace
Located in a green hill, the Kunjaban Palace is a famous tourist destination for its scenic beauty of architecture. It is a home of the classical artists till now. Poet Rabindranath composed various songs here inspired by the surrounding natural landscapes.

Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary
Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary is a home of the various species of domestic and migratory birds. One can also see here the wild movements of the monkeys and deers.

Pilak
The 8th and 9th century’s old sculptures of the Hindu and Buddhist religion make Pilak a favorite destination for the tourists. The symbol of survival of various creeds of Hindu and Buddhism are represented by the images, terracotta plaques and sealing.

Dumboor   Lake
The small islands, the migratory birds, the surrounding green vegetation add majestic beauty to the Dumboor Lake which is the confluence of the rivers Raima and Sarma. One can enjoy several water games here.

Neermahal
A summer resort, nested in the Rudrasagar Lake built by Maharaja Birbikram Kishore Bahadur, is a conglomeration of both Hindu and Mughal architecture. It is the only one lake palace in entire north-eastern India. It is 53 kms away from Agartala.

Jampuri Hill
Jampuri Hill is a home of the various tribes of Tripura. The orange gardens, the paddy fields, the green forests, the sights of sun rising and sun setting are the most attractions of Jampuri Hill.

The main Buddhist temples of Tripura are Venuban Vihar temple, Pecharthal, Kanchanpur, Manu Bakuland Pilak. The idols of Lord Buddha and various images related to Buddhism are seen here.
