City Map of Dehradun - Uttaranchal
Previously called Dehra Doon, Dehradun is Uttaranchals state capital and headquarters of the Dehradun district. Its name has a lot of meanings and among it is Dera, which means camp and Dun, which stands for valley.
Located in the Doon valley about 230 kilometers from New Delhi, it is known across the world for its Dehradooni basmati rice that is grown in the surrounding fields of Saharanpur. Prior to the creation of Uttaranchal, it formed part of the Uttar Pradesh state. |

| The town lies right at the womb of the Doon valley, which belongs to the so-called Young Himalayas. As far as Indian Hill Stations are concerned, Dehradun is considered the embodiment of natural beauty. The famed and elite learning centers Doon School and Welhams also found their homes here.
This enchanting hill station also hosts the respected Forest Research Institute and the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Studies. Aside from qualifying as a star educational center, other attractions such as the unique picnic spot called Robbers Cave can also ve found here. |
