City Map of Mussorie - Uttar Pradesh
Blessed with enormous natural beauty, Mussoorie - located in the Garhwal hills -- is called the queen of hill stations. The community, lying 2,500 meters in the Green Himalayas range, boasts of vast flora and fauna, making it a fascinating hill resort.
Presenting itself with a fairyland atmosphere to visitors, Mussoorie commands snow ranges to the Northeast and provides great views of the Doon Valley and the Shiwalik ranges to the south. The name is taken from the plant Mussoorie that was found in abundance here. |

The place's history dates back to 1827 when Captain Young,a military officer, explored and discovered the site. He then laid the foundation of the holiday resort, making it famous for its scenic beauty and hectic social life.
Unlike Simla though, the city never became an official summer capital even with its predominantly tropical climate. It is described as a gossipy place with an air of informality and a romantic tradition, making it dubbed as India's honeymoon capital. |
