- An additional handling charge of Rs 300 per application will be levied by VFS.
- An official receipt must be obtained for all payments made.
Will I need an interview?
We aim only to call for interview those customers we really need
to see in order to make a decision on their application. If you
meet the criteria set out below, it is unlikely that you will
need an interview.
- You have travelled to the UK in the last ten years, and have evidence of this travel.
- You have travelled to the US, Australia, New Zealand. Canada, Switzerland or Schengen countries within the last five years, and have evidence of this travel.
- You are aged over 65 and are visiting a son or daughter in UK. You will need full documentary evidence of your circumstances in India; evidence that the visit is affordable; an invitation from your sponsor explaining your relationship, and any other information you think will help to show that you are a genuine visitor who intends to leave the UK after a visit.
- You are a Diplomat in the Indian Foreign Service (applications should be accompanied by an MEA note) or an officer of the Indian Administrative Service.
- You are a diplomat serving in a diplomatic mission in India. You application should be accompanied by a note verbal from the mission.
- You are the spouse or child (under 18) of one of a person who meets one of the above criteria, and are travelling with them.
- You are a student sponsored by the British Council, or a life member of the Association of British Scholars.
- You are a contract seaman. Application must be accompanied by a letter from a recognised shipping company along with your seaman's book.
- You are a nautical student. Application must be supported by university acceptance letter and evidence of funding.
- You are a member of an airline crew working on a route which lands in the United Kingdom.
- You are a returning resident with evidence of your current immigration status in the United Kingdom (copies of your old passport or letters from the United Kingdom Home Office showing that you have been granted Indefinite Leave to Remain).
BUT YOU WILL BE CALLED FOR AN INTERVIEW IF YOU HAVE:
- been refused a visa for the UK or for any other country, unless you have subsequently obtained a visa for that country;
- been refused entry to the UK or any other country, or
- failed to comply with your conditions of entry to the UK, or sought an extension of stay there.
If you do not meet the criteria set out above, you may need to be interviewed. But if your application is fully prepared, and accompanied by relevant documentary evidence of your circumstances, we may be able to issue your visa without the need to see you.
When will my visa be issued?
If no interview is required, your passport should be returned
to the application centre, or couriered to you, within two working
days. If we need to call you in for interview, we aim to be
able to provide appointments on the next working day. This might
slip during exceptionally busy periods.
